Bent Tree Cabin Rental

Dec 2013 · Website

Located in the mountains one hour outside of Atlanta, the Bent Tree Cabin is the perfect country getaway. The surrounding resort-like community features scenic landscapes and a variety of wildlife. The final website I created was designed to capture and deliver the spirit of the cabin and community by creating a simple frame around beautiful photographs of the area.

The Bent Tree Cabin

Mark and Iconography

I started fresh when designing the website for the rental cabin, drawing inspiration from the area itself. I adopted a clean, minimalistic aesthetic for the graphic content to draw attention to the stunning visuals already provided by the cabin and community.

As a home rental website, one of my main goals was to answer any questions related to what people may experience in the area and how renting a home may be different than staying at a hotel. We ended up including information such as the local weather forecast, nearby spots for food and groceries, and even a live webcam feed of the view off the balcony.

It was also important to the client that the site feature a responsive layout to serve the growing customer base visiting the site with mobile devices. This was my first opportunity to create a mobile photo gallery, so instead of importing a large JavaScript library I went ahead and coded a lightweight script to handle swipe interaction in addition to photo callouts that users can tap on/hover over for more information.

As a bonus I've included a timelapse video showing the beautiful view from the cabin's 2nd floor deck. I hope to edit all of the footage I took from Bent Tree into a highlights reel, but I felt this shot was too great to be hidden away until then.
